3D carved Column
This 3D carved column is a hundred percent practical to be made out of wood, stone, etc. or even for 3d printing.
You can also use the different formats of this model (which is stl, fbx, and obj) according to the software you are using. You will receive separate links to download each format.
If you didn’t find the size or format you are looking for, please feel free to contact us. We’ll be glad to help you out.
We can also make some changes to make this file more practical for your purpose.
You can find different forms of 3D carved balusters here.
A little hint on how to produce this object!
If you are using a 3D printer, the easiest way is to print it as it is shown on the render which is vertical. However, It might not be possible to do it in one operation and you would need to print it in two or more sections depending on your printer working envelope. If you decide to do it horizontally, don’t forget to use supports in appropriate places to prevent deformation during the printing process.
Now if you are a CNC milling user and your material of choice is wood, the best way to do it is by using a 4 Axis CNC machine. In this particular model, you should machine it 4 Axis simultaneously! Another good strategy is to fix it on the rotary axis but mill it with just 3 Axis raster machining and index it with the rotary axis. On the other hand, if you don’t have a rotary axis then you need to fix the workpiece on the machine table and machine it in several index positions. You could machine it in only 2 sections but for achieving an acceptable result, we would recommend a 4 section machining with 90º divisions. If you use a tapered spherical tool (also known as a carving tool for CNC machine), then you can machine this model in only one operation without the need for a separate roughing pass. To achieve the highest productivity it’s recommended to use a multi-head rotary CNC machine, therefore, you are able to produce multiple balusters at the same time.
And lastly, if the material is stone or glass, you can use electroplated tapered spherical tools to carve this model, and don’t forget to use plenty of proper coolant on the tool. You would defiantly need a roughing procedure for this model using a bigger ball nosed or even a disk tool.
